Creative ZiiO Tablet: Android Tablets in 7 & 10 Inch Form Factor

Creative ZiiO Android Tablet Comes With Resistive Touchscreen. Will the Low Price Justify This?

With a lot of Android mobiles and tablets being released these days, a lot of manufacturers are coming up with their own gadgets with Android goodness. The Creative ZiiO Tablet comes in 7″ and 10″ form factors. But does it cut the grade?

The Creative ZiiO comes in black or white, and with either 8 GB or 16 GB storage. Creative has chosen to use its own ZiiLabs ZMS-08 processor, and the device runs Android 2.1 (2.2 for the ZiiO will come in 2011).

Among the ZiiO’s highlights is Creative’s X-Fi audio enhancement technology. The device also has the standard connectivity options–WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1–which let it connect seamlessly with Creative’s own range of wireless speakers.

Perhaps the dealbreaker for some is the fact that the ZiiO uses a resistive touchscreen rather than a capacitive one. So no multi-touch here. However, reviews point out that the touchscreen is workable.

Now even with the resistive touchscreen, (relatively) underperforming processor and (relatively) small storage, the main come-on of the ZiiO is the price. At GBP 200 for the 8 GB model and GBP 220 for the 16GB 7-inch models, the ZiiO costs less than half a Samsung Galaxy Tab. The 10-inch models cost GBP 250 and GBP 270, respectively. Sounds reasonable!
