Symbian Foundation Announces SYMBEOSE OS Project For Cloud Computing
In terms of sales, Symbian used to be at the top spot in the Smartphone market, but it’s quickly being overtaken by iOS and Android devices. In a bid to keep its hold on the market and remain up to date with its offerings, the Symbian Foundation has announced the SYMBEOSE Project, which is meant for embedded devices.

Symbian is ditching its Symbian^3 and Symbian^4 nomenclature for SYMBEOSE. The new OS will be meant for embedded gadgets, which means that we will probably see the operating system in action on mobile phones, tablets, and other gadgets that need OSes (like hi-tech cars and fridges, perhaps).
SYMBEOSE literally stands for Symbian – the Embedded Operating System for Europe, and it has sprung about with 22 million Euro of funding from European investors. Note that the focus here is on cloud computing, which means the device will probably meant to mostly interact directly with online sources of information, rather than act as a standalone, offline gadget.
The Symbian foundation believes that the Symbian OS’s “frugal capabilities” are best able to address the needs of cloud-based computing. True enough, if you put everything on the Internet, you won’t need much processing power onboard. You do need a fast connection, though!
