Kinect Beta Testers Allowed To Keep Their Kinect [Microsoft Rewards Those Who Tested Kinect With Allowing Them To Keep The Hardware, Even Giving them Kinect Adventures]
Those who pre-ordered Kinect for Microsoft are being allowed to keep their Kinect units. Great news! You’ll remember that Microsoft started discreetly sending out Kinects to select members in their customer service feedback program back in August. Microsoft is being especially generous and allowing those people to keep their Kinect sensors.

A letter obtained by gaming blog Joystiq from Marc Whitten, the head of the Kinect program, details how the beta testers are being allowed to keep their hardware. We’d imagine that they were going to be expected to send them back, where Microsoft would send them off to a repair station somewhere for refurb units or something. Great news for these guys.
Also, it sounds like these guys mainly were testing the Dashboard UI stuff for Kinect. Joystiq had learned that prior to being admitted to the Kinect beta program, they had to agree that they would be unable to voice chat with friends who weren’t in the Kinect beta. This was assumed to meant that they would receive the Fall Dashboard update early, and be unable to chat with their regular pals.
So, because we assume they were only testing the Dashboard, we suspect that means they didn’t have any games. Like those who buy a boxed Kinect sensor in the stories, Microsoft is providing them with a free copy of ‘Kinect Adventures’. Digitally, of course. They’ll be provided a download code to snag it from Xbox Live.
