Verizon Wireless Removes Palm Pre Plus From Website

Palm Pre 2 May Arrive Shortly With Verizon As Pre Plus Has Already Been Removed To Make Room

Back on October 15th we noticed that the Palm Pre Plus had been changed to out-of-stock with Verizon. Of course, we had already began seeing rumors of the Palm Pre 2 at that point so it seemed fitting. But being only rumor, it could have just as well really been out-of-stock.

And then the Palm Pre 2 was officially announced on October 19th and that out-of-stock listing made total sense — Verizon was beginning to phase out the Pre Plus. In other words, out with the old and in with the new. Well, flash forward till today and we have just seen Verizon drop the Pre Plus entirely. Granted the Pre 2 has not yet appeared, but we would expect that to happen sooner rather than later.

The interesting part here, and bear with me as this involves some speculation. That said, on one hand this sits Verizon in a good spot as far as webOS smartphones go. After all, Sprint is still selling the original Pre (and Pixi) and AT&T is still selling the Pre Plus (and Pixi Plus). That makes the Pre 2 sound newer and better, and could in turn help Verizon attract more potential webOS customers. Of course, in some respects the Pre 2 truly is better. It does have a faster processor, which is 1GHz.

Moving past the ‘better by the name theory’ and looking solely at Verizon. As I have said before, this is going to be a rough sell for them. Consider this, their best chance at selling the Pre 2 would likely be to current Pre Plus users and I for one plan to hold on tightly. For one, webOS 2.0 is going to come down for me and second is the free mobile hotspot. Granted, the Pre 2 could also come with that same offer, but at this point it is not been announced by Verizon.

Either way though, it looks like the Pre 2 is coming soon.
