Twitter Goes Official On Windows Phone 7
Just in case you were on the fence over whether or not to go with Windows’ new cell phone, the Windows Phone 7, because it wasn’t set to have Twitter, your last bit of resistance is now destroyed. The folks out at Twitter announced yesterday that there will be an official Twitter app for Windows Phone 7.

There’s not set to be much difference, or so the initial word is suggesting, between the Windows Phone 7 version of Twitter and the iPhone version, meaning that, from the looks of things currently, if you’re already happy with your iPhone Twitter experience, you won’t be getting any extra benefits by jumping ship and going with Windows Phone 7. It’s built almost exactly how Metro UI guidelines suggest it should be built, with precious few surprises thrown in.
Further word suggests that there will be a timeline view of tweets, a list of suggested users to follow, access to the normal slate of messages and lists, plus the interesting ability to sign up for a Twitter account within the Twitter app itself.
And yes, this is good news, make no mistake there. Windows Phone 7 is going to need these kinds of “basic” apps in order to be any kind of competition against well-entrenched iPhone and the up and coming Android line. But this isn’t going to be enough, at least from where I’m sitting, to completely take care of business here. After all, most people who have an iPhone are pretty happy with it–what’s going to get them to leave iPhone? And same with Android. Windows Phone 7 can’t be hoping to get all the unaffiliated folks–that market is comprised of lots of dissimilar interests, including pay-as-you-go users and people who just want a simple and dirt cheap phone for emergency use only.
Windows Phone 7 needs to get some “killer apps” of its own to really pose much of a threat to brands that have been in the marketplace much longer, at least as far as I can tell.
