New Democratic Group Championing Net Neutrality
By all accounts, next Tuesday will be a political catastrophe for the Democratic Party. Perhaps that is why one progressive group has chosen this time to launch a new group whose aim claims to be keeping net neutrality in place. The Net Neutrality Protectors campaign is being led by congresswoman Anne McLane Kuster, who is in danger of losing her seat in what is predicted to be a GOP landslide.

The group (comprised of roughly 100 congressional Democrats) issued a statement yesterday that included the promise to keep the internet a” level playing field”. The group also promises to attempt to do this for both wired and wireless connections. Some larger internet and wireless carriers have been pushing the FCC and Congress to allow what would basically be a two tiered internet. On tier would be comprised of the “fast lane” and the other the “slow lane”. The basis of this desire is that carriers could charge more for the higher speed access than they do for the slower speeds as well as a series of other benefits that could hurt smaller websites and organizations.
