Lord Of The Rings Online Europe Free To Play Relaunch Date Revealed

Lord Of The Rings Online Going Free To Play In Europe For Real This Time

We stand before a sea of choices. We could say something like about damn time. We could make fun of the contract and licensing issues again, but we don’t really like to repeat ourselves. Or we could see this for what it is, an opportunity to dive into completely different fare than World Of Warcraft at no extra cost, with different pacing and  by all accounts a more mature and laid-back community.

There are apparently three tiers of membership, all the way from status quo to free as in beer, as well as loads of trinkets and doodads to be had in the LOTRO store, a Wardrobe storage system (we were almost hoping for a many-legged Luggage when we read that before we remembered that’s in the other fantasy world with the giant turtle) and scalable dungeons. It all sounds nice enough, in a very grown-up and sedate kind of way, but we’re almost surprised at how OK we are with that. We’re kind of hoping for a smoke-ring blowing contest with Gandalf or some toe-line fishing actually. Might as well be looking at retirement home fliers.
