Cameraless Android Phone? Motorola Droid Pro Coming Without Camera [Leaked Document Shows That Motorola Will Ship Phone Without Camera For High-Security Workplaces]
Do you work at Intel? Or Boeing? (or Apple?) If you work in a high-security workplace that won’t allow cell phones with cameras to be brought in, then you may be in luck. While BlackBerries and Windows Mobile devices have ruled the “cameraless market” for years, recent internal documents have hit the web that show that Verizon will be offering a Motorola Droid Pro without a camera.

If it isn’t obvious to you why you’d want a cell phone without a camera, many workplaces don’t let you take them in. Why? Because they don’t want blurry spycam photos of their stuff showing up on tech blogs. But, this goes beyond tech companies. Chemcial compnaies, courthouses, hospitals and even a certain sausage producer I know (no joke) require employees to have cameraless phones.
Documents obtained by tech blog Engadget show training material from somewhere (it isn’t clear if it’s from Verizon or Motorola) and make reference to “the new Enterprise-focused DROID phone without a camera”. This could actually be huge for helpping Android break into business.
Sure, Android has had exchange support and things for a while. But the Droid Pro appears to be the first honest-to-goodness enterprise centric phone from Android, and this cameraless option will go along way to expanding sales, we think.
Unfortunately, many of these high-security workplaces also require phones without USB connections. This definitely would rule out Motorola’s Android phones, though.
What do you think about Motorola offering a cameraless Droid Pro? Awesome feature? Waste of time? Give us your take in the comments section.
