Valve’s Left 4 Dead Comes to Mac OS X Via Steam

Valve Releases Left 4 Dead Mac Support Included in Recent Update

As of this spring Mac users have finally received access to Valve’s Steam gaming platform. And along with more Steam gaming support for Apple computers also came various game ready to be played on MacBooks, iMacs or Mac Pros.

One of those games that came out for Mac OS X computers this summer from Valve was Left 4 Dead 2, and, although that’s a great move from the company, Left 4 Dead fans were probably annoyed that the first game in the series was not give support for Mac OS X.

Valve tried to launch the original Left 4 Dead game in time for Halloween and it looks like they hit their deadline. Here’s what the new Left 4 Dead update will bring you besides Mac support:

  • Added Mac support for Left 4 Dead
  • In Versus mode Tanks will spawn in stasis until a human player takes over. Tanks in stasis are invisible and invulnerable, and won’t move or attack
  • Tank speed is no longer reduced when on fire
  • Allow players on the Infected team to manually spawn during finales
  • Added a vote option toggle All-Talk
  • Any Special Infected that causes a Survivor to stumble into a “ledge hang” situation will receive 50 points
  • Bullets that first pass through an infected character before striking a Survivor are now ignored as friendly fire
  • In Versus mode car alarms will now trigger anytime a Special Infected pulls or stumbles a Survivor into an alarm car
  • Protected console commands that can be used to lag or crash servers

As for prices, the Left 4 Dead single license costs $9.99, the four-pack will cost $29.99 while the Left 4 Dead / Left 4 Dead 2 bundle will set you back a cool $14.99, and no matter what version you choose to buy you’ll be able to play the game on any other platform except Mac OS X. That also means you can already play Left 4 Dead on a Mac in case you already own the game.
