Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Update Hinted by New Images [Sony Ericsson Is Yet to Produce an Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Update; Still Not Jumping Straight to Froyo]
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the Dell Streak are two Android devices that certainly annoyed their owners when it comes to Android OS updates. Luckily for Dell Streak owners Dell has decided to jump to Froyo instead of Eclair but the same thing isn’t happening with Sony Ericsson.

Not only is the manufacturer late with the Android 2.1 update that was supposed to hit Xperia X10 handsets since September, but Sony Ericsson isn’t even considering jumping to Froyo.
On the other hand Sony Ericsson announced in a blog post that the Android 2.1 is very near. In fact the company also has a few videos meant to woo Xperia X10 owners. The short clip below shows the main features of Android 2.1 and boy you must be dying to move from Android 1.6, an OS that already seems so old and outdated, to Android 2.1 a much better alternative for your Android passion.
The Xperia X10 Android 2.1 update will bring you 2 extra home screens (5 instead of 3), new custom virtual keyboard, “faster and improved Timescape” with social networking, unified inbox, HD video recording, interactive wallpapers, more apps, backup and restore feature. As you can see in the 3-minute clip below the Xperia X10 looks great running the “new” OS and you can certainly see that Sony Ericsson has been constantly tweaking its Android UI for the Xperia X10. Too bad we’re not looking at a Froyo demo here!
Gingerbread on the other hand is expected to arrive by the end of the year. So should we assume Sony Ericsson is going to jump to Gingerbread and skip Froyo when it comes to upgrading the Xperia X10 again? Or is the manufacturer going to always be one step behind Google thus annoying even more its current and potential customers?
Voice your concerns in the comment section below, folks, as an Eclair launch date for the Xperia X10 hasn’t been mentioned yet.
