New BlackBerry Torch 9800 Comes in Red & White to AT&T [AT&T Announces New BlackBerry Torch Versions; Red & White Smartphones Coming on November 7]

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 was one of RIM’s bets for 2010. The phone is the first touchscreen device with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard conceived by RIM so far, but unfortunately the handset didn’t become the kind of hit phone RIM hoped it would be.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 was also the first BlackBerry smartphone to run RIM’s new mobile OS, optimized for touchscreen phones, BlackBerry 6. The phone was officially announced in August and AT&T was the first carrier in the world to start selling it and it looks like AT&T is trying to pitch the phone to its subscribers again this holidays.

There’s no new Torch in town, when it comes to specs and features, but there are a couple of new colors in town, red and white, and that’s what AT&T will try to sell you this Christmas. The new red and white BlackBerry Torch 9800 will be available starting with November 7 and they’ll cost you the same $199.99 with a new two-year contract. The phones are exclusive to AT&T customers so other worldwide carriers might never get the same color versions.

I personally don’t care all that much about the actual color of a smartphone but should you be interested in a white handset from AT&T, and given that the white iPhone 4 is not exactly coming anytime soon, then you should certainly give the white Torch 9800 a try. And here’s a quick recap of specs and features for the Torch 9800 for you:

• 3.2-inch touchscreen display
• 480 x 360 resolution
• full, slide-out QWERTY keyboard
