MacBook Air 11″ Travelers Take Note: TSA Says Keep It In The Bag [The 11" MacBook Air Has Been Cleared For Travel By The TSA]
Being as holiday travel season is very nearly on us–it’s only about three weeks, give or take, until Americans settle in for turkey and football with Thanksgiving and then proceed to ransack stores for Black Friday–you’re probably already groaning at the thought of going through a TSA checkpoint, especially with the laptop you need to make life bearable during your absence back at the old family homestead. But for those of you traveling with an 11 inch MacBook Air, be of good cheer, as recent word out of the TSA says that they’re clear for transport.

For those of you looking to travel with an 11 inch MacBook Air, the current word says that you may leave it in the bag at the screening checkpoints, no doubt a welcome bit of news to Mac enthusiasts out there who find themselves traveling for the upcoming holidays.
Similar exceptions had been announced previously for devices like the iPad, but this is where a couple interesting points come in. One, the MacBook Air wasn’t given any specific exemption, but rather falls under existing rules regarding traveling hardware. The 13 inch MacBook Air, meanwhile, does not share this exemption despite the fact that they come from the same manufacturer.
Two, this word doesn’t come from a written statement by the TSA but rather word from a TSA spokesman who, in turn, gave it to CNN originally where it proceeded to disseminate from there.
For those out there who complain about TSA screenings being inconsistent, well, you likely have a lot of reason. Especially with the whole “the 11 inch MacBook Air is just fine but we have to look at the 13 inch MacBook Air because that’s clearly two different things and who knows what difference those two inches make?) thing in play. But it is how it is, sadly, and there’s always the bus or train if you’d prefer to not go through all the headaches airline travel offers.
