T-Mobile myTouch 4G Now Official [T-Mobile Confirms The Pricing, Release Date & Other Information Of Their Next Android Phone with HSPA+]

Well, they decided to go with “4G”. After much speculation and rumors, T-Mobile US has officially unveiled their T-Mobile myTouch 4G, a new Android device for the carrier. As with the previous myTouch phones, it’s being manufactured by HTC and it’s release date is sort of soon.

T-Mobile is asking $199 for the phone on a two-year, which seems kind of high to us. The phone’s release date is November 3rd, a date where T-Mobile is also introducing their overhauled data plans as well as a few other new phones to their service. The myTouch 4G will be running a customized version of HTC Sense, which AndroidandMe and other Android blogs had been calling the “Espresso UI”, but T-Mobile is branding as the “myTouch UI”, which means we will probably only see it on T-Mobile phones.

The “4G” in the name is an interesting choice. As we’ve previously discussed here, while other carriers are rushing to build expensive LTE and WiMAX networks, T-Mobile is betting on the cheaper HSPA+ network (which they can upgrade to by flashing the firmware on their towers). T-Mobile’s HSPA+ is currently in more places than Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network and some have reported higher speeds. But, since HSPA+ is not a candidate to be 4G (as certified by the International Telecommunications Union), some had reported that T-Mobile US was going hold off on calling their HSPA+ network “4G” due to fears of false advertising lawsuits and marketing pressure from the other three major carriers. But, they’re calling chicken.

Just  to recap, the myTouch 4G is offering a 3.8-inch screen, a 1GHz processor, a 5MP camera and Android 2.2.
