Microsoft’s Kinect Is Core Part of Xbox 360 Strategy, Like Xbox Live [Kinect Part Of Microsoft Core Xbox 360 Plan As Much As Xbox Live]

We could literally just quote Phil Spencer  for this entire article. It’s his interview, so that should make sense, but there’s an ungodly amount of juicy quotes here even for the average game industry exec interview. We could dress it up, go the Michael Pachter route and say something like man, these Phil Spencer quotes so speak for themselves. But some of these are just too great to pass up.

“Our [Kinect] launch line-up is strong, it’s deep – it’s great seeing the third parties step up. But our gamer customers should expect to see Kinect across all genres,” he says. Yeah, except FPS’s. Or RPG’s. Also, why does he remind us of Brucie from GTA IV when he starts going on about the launch line-up? “Well we view Kinect as a fundamental part of the [Xbox 360] platform. It is as core to the platform as Live is.” Because you know, Live was developed as a response to external market pressure and tacked onto a platform mid-life cycle and based on completely unproven technology. Also, Live didn’t really cater to your installed base and all the games with Live functionality at launch were karting and rafting games. Yeah, Phil Spencer, Kinect is like Live 2.0.
