Kobo eBooks App for iOS Updated To Version 3.7 [Kobo Updates iOS Ebook App, Adds Newspaper & Magazine Reading, Dictionary & More]

Kobo has returned once again with a welcomed update in terms of their iOS ebook application, aptly titled Kobo eBooks. This latest update continues on the trend of being a universal app for the iPod touch and iPhone as well as the iPad and is now sitting at version 3.7 with a few new features as well as an extra touch in terms of style and a bug fix.

First and foremost, the change log;

  • Supports reading Newspaper and Magazine content on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
  • Turn a page using a page curl, just like turning a page in a real book.
  • Touch and hold any word to look it up in the built-in English dictionary or Wikipedia, or search for it online with Google.
  • Addresses a minor issue when reading while not connected to a WiFi or cellular data network.

Of course, after reading that you can likely see that the ‘not connected’ issue was the bug fix and the ‘page curl’ was the extra touch in terms of style. Granted those are nice, but perhaps a little more so is the dictionary and the support for newspapers and magazine reading. Personally, the dictionary is nice to see and something that seemed strange to be missing. But then again, it took Amazon a little while before their iOS app had a built-in dictionary added.

That aside though, lets cover the details for the newspapers and magazines. There seems to be a decent overall selection, though you can likely guess many of those that will be available. For example, the Kobo eBookstore has the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, as well as others such as PC Magazine. As far as the prices, those will vary depending on the publication that you choose to subscribe to, however it looks like they start fairly low, at $1.99 per month. And for those concerned with quality, there are 14 day trials available so you can make sure you are getting your moneys worth before actually spending any money.

Otherwise, the Kobo eBooks app was and remains a free download and can be found in the App Store, just click the ‘via’ link below.
