Epson Endeavor ST150E Featuring Core i7 Processor
Nettop computers–those computers designed to hook to your television and give you easy access to streaming video on full-sized screens–have long been regarded as a good idea poorly executed. Sure, it’s great to have simple and fast access to Netflix or YouTube on the screen you’d normally use to watch television, but previous nettops often let folks down in the performance department. Epson is looking to change that with a surprising new addition to its Endeavor ST150E: an Intel Core i7 processor.

You won’t just have that one, either; if you want it a little lighter in power, not to mention lighter on the price tag, you’ll be able to choose from a variety of lesser processors, including the Intel Celeron P4600, the Intel Core i3-370M, and a pair of Intel i5s, the 460M and the 560M. Plus, you’ll also get a DVD-RW drive, as much as eight gig of RAM, your choice of a 640 gig hard drive or a 64 gig solid state drive, the ability to mount it behind an LCD and a super power bill-friendly 16 watts of power consumption. That’s almost certainly with the Celeron, though, but still.
The Epson Endeavor ST150E might well be one of the first nettops that solves the issues with power that a lot of people have had, plus it replaces a lot of entertainment center components–both DVR and DVD players gone–plus access to the wide array of online only content (like us, of course) gives you plenty of extra utility and the power that a lot of nettops were previously lacking.
This is almost certainly going to make most everybody happy, with just about every combination of price and potency served here. In fact, the starting price is just under $800 US, with the biggest system running at $2300 US. They’re both going to be available in Japan to start with, sadly, but hopefully they’ll make the trek to other markets soon.
