Apple To Offer Free iPad Engraving [Apple Gives Away Engraving For Its iPad In Time For Holiday Shopping]

Free stuff and Apple are a combination on par with, say, peanut butter and chocolate or machine guns and high-performance sports cars. Admittedly, this isn’t exactly a huge giveaway on Apple’s part, but if you’ve been considering an iPad for a gift in the upcoming holiday shopping frenzy, well, you’ve got a little more reason to do so now.

See, Apple’s looking to offer free engraving on the back of its iPads, and just in time for the holiday shopping rush, too. When you place your order, you’ll be able to now add two lines of engraved text on the back of the device, right on that big shiny surface on the rearward of the device.

It’s interesting to note that Apple had wanted to offer free engraving all along, but there were two significant problems with this approach: one, the delay involved to add the engraving adds roughly two days of delay to every order and two, when the iPad was first coming out…well…you remember the frenzy that surrounded the iPad’s first days. How impossible it was, for example, to even find one on shelves. Now imagine adding a two day lag (and probably more than that considering the flood of them that went out) and you’re talking about the kind of bottleneck that causes riots. Or at least could cause riots–I’m not going to say that it would, definitively, but still, possibilities are possibilities.

Still though, if you’ve been putting off that iPad purchase, or you’re dying to get a family member into the world of iPad and planning to use Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or your local equivalent for your excuse, well, you’ve got just the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that you can now throw in a nice little message on the back now, something you couldn’t before without the aid of tape or sticky notes.
