Nissan LEAF Starts Production in Japan
Nissan has announced that it has kicked off production of its upcoming 2011 model LEAF at its Oppama, Japan plant. The first production releases are targeted to finish by November, which will ship to US shores by December, 2010.

Parts of Nissan’s Oppama production line were retooled to support installation of the LEAF’s 24 KWh battery at the same point where similar gasoline-powered cars get their fuel tanks installed.
While the Oppama plant has a capacity of 50,000 LEAFs per year, Nissan likewise plans to retool its Smyrna, Tennessee and Sunderland, England plants to enable these to support LEAF production, thereby boosting production capacity.
The much-awaited zero-emissions vehicle will start retailing in Japan and the US this December, and in the UK and Europe in January 2011.

Our family is sooo excited to get our LEAF. So far we have been informed that our order is in the first 100 cars to be delivered in Dec. Can’t wait!
Good for you! I’d like a Chevy Volt, myself, but I’m not sure if they will sell/lease it in my place. And I’m just into the second year of a 5-year lease with my Toyota Vios (Yaris Sedan), so I’ll have to wait.
