Google Updates YouTube Android App for Froyo 2.2 as a Standalone Version

Android 2.2 Gets Updated YouTube App with Ability to Download from Android Market

While YouTube has always come pre-installed on Android devices-it is a part of Google so of course it does-Google finally updated the app and made it available to download form the Android Market as a standalone version for Froyo 2.2 users. This version of the YouTube Android app offers the same features as the older version, but with a few extras thrown in to make it easier to use.

The usual features include the ability for users to search, watch, and upload videos to YouTube. The updated version for Froyo 2.2 offers even more functionality including screen rotation to make the video toggle to full screen when the user rotates his Droid device into landscape mode. In page playback is also available and offers users the ability to read comments while watching videos.

New player controls also make it easier to search, download, and watch videos from the Android 2.2 device and the updated user interface is a bit more useful, not to mention nicer to look at. It is also a smart app because it recommends videos based on what the user has watched before. Now, if only this YouTube app were available as a standalone version for all Android users…

Upgraded to froyo 2.2 on Droid X and now Bluetooth for all practical purposes does not work. Have an HP EQ7 speaker/speakerphone and it connects but does not communicate with phone. Phone continues to play through its speakers and nothing is sent to the HP EQ7. This really sucks will have to re-think Google’s solution to the smart phone.
