Viper SmartStart Car Alarm/Control System Now $100 Less Expensive

Viper Lowers SmartStart System From $499 To $399, Still Sounds A Bit Pricey

The Viper SmartStart system has been mentioned several times here on TFTS, in fact I for one would love to see it installed in my car. Needless to say there are several things holding me back in terms of making that happen.

Some of those reasons are slightly more due to my habits, first I drive a leased VW Jetta and second being I work from home and rarely drive more than 50 miles in a week. Not to mention the car is almost always in the garage. In other words, I do not need a fancy car alarm/control system, no matter how cool it looks.

That said, if I were in the market for such a purchase I may have been tempted to go for it after reading this latest bit of news from Viper. The Viper SmartStart is now $100 less expensive than it was before. The price has been cut from $499 down to $399 and all things considered, that is fairly significant. Granted, it is still $399, which depending on who you ask may still be on the pricey side.

And in addition to the $399 purchase price, there is also the $30 annual fee for using it. But hey, for that you are getting the ability to control your car including lock and unlock the doors, pop the trunk pop, hit the panic button and remote start. Plus, the apps (for Android, the iPhone and BlackBerry) will all alert you if something happens to your car when you are not around.

Lastly, in addition to the price cut, there was also the announcement of the Viper Motor Club, which is expected to open up before the end of the year. As for what the Motor Club will offer, the usual in terms of roadside assistance goodies. Lets just hope that you don’t fall prey to the ‘I have locked myself out of the car’ call because that means you not only locked your keys, but also your phone in your car. And in that case, it my be difficult to even make the call. Have you seen a pay phone lately?
