Team Fortress 2 & Steam Are Making People Filthy Stinking Rich
Valve announced in a press release today that their experimental foray into user-created content for Team Fortress 2 has gone horrifically…well. In fact, it’s going so well that the five people chosen to make content for TF2 and then sell it through Steam have made more money in the past two weeks than what some people can expect to see in a year.

In the press release, Valve announced that those five people – Rob Laro, Shawn Spetch, Steven Skidmore, Spencer Kern, and Shaylyn Hamm – each saw royalty checks ranging between $39,000 and $47,000 for their first two weeks of sales. Those numbers aren’t collective, they’re per person. Considering that each contributor gets only 25% percent of the money made on their content, I’d say that Valve’s experiment in selling user-created content through the in-game Mann Co. Store went pretty well, wouldn’t you?
By the way, if sales like these were to keep up for an entire year, then those five people would net profits ranging from $1,014,000 to $1,222,000 – as if you needed another reason to hate your job.
