Sony Considering More Android Products
Sony is crazy for Android. They tested the waters with their Xperia line which (despite shipping with Android 1.6) is becoming one of the more hotly selling Android phone brands. They’re also the manufacturer of the Google TV HDTV which is based on Android. Sony isn’t done with Android, though. They want to make more Android consumer electronics, according to comments from Yoshihisa Ishida.

Ishida-san is the head of Sony’s TV division. Sony has struck it big with the Google TV platform where they manufacturer the HDTVs with Google TV built-in (while Logitech is developing the set-top boxes with the Google TV software).
Talking to reporters in Tokyo at a Google TV event, Ishida-san said that Sony is “thinking about using Android in more consumer electronics products.” Ishida didn’t elaborate, though. We have a few ideas.
- An Android-powered Sony PSP2 has been suggested. It also may be part-mobile phone.
- Apps and widgets on HDTVs are becoming a big thing (Samsung is having a big push at it themselves in their US marketing). Will Sony make Android standard on all of their HDTVs?
- Sony Ericsson has vowed to be the #1 Android phone manufacturer in the world. Sony’s Viao line of notebooks is popular. Could we see an Android tablet from either Sony Ericsson or Sony (branded with the Viao name, of course).
