Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab Coming November 11th

Big Red's Android Tablet Gets Dated And Priced, 7-Inch iPad Killer Coming For $600 With No Contract Subsidization

Verizon has issued a press release, announcing their release date and pricing for the hot Android Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet. Just because the carrier has just started offering the iPad and it looks like they’ll have the iPhone next year doesn’t mean they’ve given up on Android (yet, at least). Big Red will be selling the Galaxy Tab on November 11th for $600.

The big news here is that Verizon won’t be subsidizing the cost of the tablet at all. No, they’re taking the iPad business model here. No two-year contract required, but at the same time, they’re not offering any help on the $600 price tag.

Verizon will be offering a month-to-month data contract, though, judging by the sound of their press release. Details are scarce, but they do mention a $20 monthly/1GB data plan for the Galaxy Tab, which is currently cheaper than their existing mobile data plans. However, it’s also a slightly worse deal than AT&T’s iPad plans, which is $25 monthly/2GB.

Expect the Galaxy Tab to come preloaded with all your favorite Verizon apps, like V CAST Music, VZ Navigator, Kindle for Android, Blockbuster On Demand, etc. etc. Oh yeah, V CAST Apps, Verizon’s own app store will also be included in addition to the Android Market.

Popular tech blogs are comparing the $600 price of the iPad to the $500 “starting” price of the iPad, but remember that the cheapest 3G iPad is still $630, making the Galaxy Tab slightly cheaper than the iPad 3G. And remember that Verizon is selling the iPad itself, the WiFi Model with one of their MiFi 2200′s for $630.

What do you think about the Verizon pricing for the Galaxy Tab? Too expensive? Not expensive enough? Tell us your take below.

I thought that Android Froyo 2.2 is not yet optimized for tablets. I think this release is pre-mature for Samsung. It appears they are late for the X-Mas buying season so they rushed it out. As a Verizon customer, with a data plan already it is irrelevant whether the Galaxy Tab requires a plan or not for me. The fact is being pari passu with the iPad in price, this is a no brainer in favor of the iPad. At least the iPad has a fully developed App store and software integration. I now get why Steve Jobs, uncharacteristically ranted at the earnings release. I agree with him.

Overpriced… I hate that they do this..when both models will probably be $199 this time next year. I mean really.
