Mario Originally Had A Gun, Busted Caps And Everything
If the game industry was a car, Shigeru Miyamoto’s career would be… erm, a car too. Basically the game industry and Shigeru Miyamoto’s career are synonymous, is what we’re saying. And that means crap can get pretty real if you’re Shigeru Miyamoto and someone interviews you. If you haven’t bought a pet, taken up yodeling or weighed yourself this week so you can have some nugget of a game idea that sounds incredibly retarded but is actually going to be brilliant and sell more copies than there are bacteria you have sort of a problem. People expect things from the loins from which the industry verily hath sprung fully formed a score and five years ago.

So you need to bust out the anecdotes. Ones we haven’t heard before. And that’s where the gun comes in. Mario had one, apparently, which he shot goombas with. Well he actually shot them with the bullets. He had those too. They were turned into fireballs at some point, but first they were bullets. The mushroom stuff is pretty weak sauce, yeah yeah mushrooms, fairy tales, whatever, but good luck trying to get the image of Mario murdering goombas execution-style out of your head.
