Palm Pre 2 Officially Announced By HP, Will Feature 3.1" Display, 1GHz CPU & HP webOS 2.0
Putting the recent chatter to the side, HP has officially announced the Palm Pre 2. That of course, is the good news, but at the same time there is likely to be some mixed emotions on this one.

First and foremost, the recent leaked images and specs have indeed been accurate. And that brings me to the mixed emotion part, sure it is a new Pre, and one that retained the Palm branding — a plus for Palm fans. But that aside, the Pre 2 has some improvements in terms of the specs and a slightly re-designed exterior, but overall it is much of the same.
That said, one of the more exciting portions here is that the Palm Pre 2 will be the first to run webOS 2.0, or what is now dubbed HP webOS 2.0. Granted, the excitement for that dwindles when we remember that other Palm devices will also get the 2.0 update in time.
The specs for the Palm Pre 2 include;
- 3.1 inch touchscreen HVGA display at 320 x 480
- 1GHz processor
- GPS
- 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, geotagging and video capture
- Portrait slide-out QWERTY keyboard
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP support
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- Palm Mobile Hotspot
- 16GB Internal Storage
- Up to 5.5 hours of talk time and 350 hours standby time
- microUSB connector for charging
- Palm Touchstone ready with Touchstone back cover included
In addition you can also expect to find an accelerometer as well as an ambient light sensor and proximity sensor.
Lastly, while the pricing has not been announced as of yet we do have some release details. So far we can tell you the SFR France will have the Pre 2 available as of this coming Friday October 22nd. Otherwise, the Pre 2 will be coming to Canada and the US (Verizon Wireless) in the “coming months.” And maybe that rumored November 11th release date with Verizon is accurate after all.
