Who Has The Most Expensive Cell Phone Plans? Canada.

Open Technology Institute Averages Cell Phone Plans From Around The World, Discovers Canada Most Expensive, India Cheapest

If you’re in the United States and you’ve cracked open your cell phone bill and got a note of sticker shock lately, you may rest assured knowing you are in good company literally all around the nation. In fact, a good chunk of North America is gasping in horror at that monthly bill, because as it turns out, the United States and Canada have the highest average cell phone bills on Earth.

That’s the word out of the New America Foundation’s Open Technology Initiative, which counts on its board of members no less than Google’s own Eric Schmidt. The Open Technology Initiative compared unlimited plans, prepaid plans, and postpaid plans from 11 different countries to find out how the rates for each broke down. The average put Canadians in the worst position, having to pay out an average of $67.50 a month (in US dollars, as the whole study was valued in), while the US itself came in second averaging $59.99 for a complete cell phone package.

India and Hong Kong, meanwhile, got off comparatively dirt cheap at $12.90 and $13.50 a month, respectively. In these cases, it’s for a complete package that includes voice, text and data services–some differences emerge as you get into the scaled-down plans.

In terms of voice minutes, the top three payouts are the UK ($.17 a minute), the US ($.18 a minute) and Canada ($.31 a minute), and this has to be doubled in both the US and Canada as customers pay for incoming and outgoing calls alike. By comparison, India and Hong Kong pay $.01 a minute.

Of course, since the whole study is dollar denominated, exchange rates certainly play a part in all this, but the wide gaps are certainly compelling in their own right. Maybe it’s time to get some more competitors in the field and drive prices down a bit, a move that would hopefully lower prices and improve service.

You can look for cheap cell phone plans, I had varouse cell phones and 2 carriers since 1993 , I tried Bell and Rogers. The Bell phones don,t work in my laundry room, elavator or underground garage.
Rogers does. Also i can get a live person 24/7 , you cannot with Bell.
I only would use Rogers , that,s just my opinion
