Sony Ericsson's Cybershot S006 Coming Soon...To Japan

For those of you who can’t get enough of a camera with plenty of megapixel resolution, then there’s good news and bad news emerging for you today. The folks out at Sony Ericsson announced their new Sony Cybershot S006, a camera packing some incredible resolution. That would be the good news. The bad news, however, is that it’s only going to be available in Japan to start with.

But here’s a closer look at what you won’t be getting any time soon–the Sony Ericsson Cybershot S006 is a 16.1 megapixel camera phone that carries ISO settings up to ISO 12800, a full gigahertz Snapdragon processor, a 3.3 inch screen (word is that the screen is VGA, but more likely than not it’s going to have a little more oomph than that, whether HVGA or WVGA is as yet unclear), Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS, and Sony’s exclusive non-smartphone OS.

If you know a good importer and aren’t afraid of paying a premium to get your hands on the latest gear as soon as possible, then you may well not have a problem here (I stress may, as knowing the exact workings of importers in advance is impossible). But if you don’t have such connections, you’ll likely be in for a good long wait.

And even if you do know a good importer, you’re further going to be disappointed by the fact that this leak snuck out well in advance of launch date. In fact, you’re not going to be able to lay hands on this monster–even assuming you either live in Japan or know someone who can get the device exported to you–until Spring of 2011. And that further assumes there won’t be any unexpected disasters in the food chain out at Sony Ericsson that would cause a delay.

So if you want some really sweet camera phone goodness, better pack a lunch, because you’re going to be waiting a while.
