No Android 2.1 For Dell Streak
If you haven’t gotten the Android 2.1 update yet for your Dell Streak, you won’t be getting it at all. That’s the word from Dell, who says that in order to focus on the Android 2.2 update, they’re going to just stop pushing the OTA update that updates the Streak to Android 2.1 That leaves one fraction of Streak users with 2.1, and some with 1.6.

Dell made the announcement on their community forums, and cited the reason for this odd decision as being due to “limited resources”. According to Dell, they’ve decided to focus on getting Android 2.2 done before the end of the year, as opposed to continuing to rollout Android 2.1 to the current Streak owners.
Dell’s Amy B went on to say that due to everything that goes into an Android OS update, they can’t give a specific date for the update. She did say that their target date is long before December 31st, if that means anything to you.
Since everybody wants the latest version of Android, it’s nice to see Dell preparing for 2.2, but isn’t it sort of weird to leave some portion of the users hanging with 1.6? Tell us your take in the comments section.

Perfectly fine hanging with 1.6 for now – if that means that the 2.2 roll out will be a heck of a lot smoother than the 2.1 roll out was.
Wouldn’t they be better waiting until Gingerbread? :P Or is that like never buying new tech in case MORE new tech comes out? :-/
I am happy with waiting on 1.6 until 2.2 rather than 2.1 then 2.2. Although they did make a bit of a fark up of it the first time round didn’t they? I can assure you I will wait until at least a few hundred k people have updated to 2.2 before I do due to the last fiasco.
As for lack of resources – wot a laff. This is Dell we are talking about not some small outfit with only a few employees. Some codger with a few mates can implement a rooted version with no problems so surely Dell should have no problems, erms, ok so they did.
