CoPilot Live Launches On-Board GPS App For Android Users
Those sporting an Android handset are most likely aware of the Navigation app from Google. And for most, that is likely more than enough, after all it seems to work well and it is free. That of course, does not mean there is no room for alternative solutions. Or alternative solutions that store the map data on your phone. Enter the latest from ALK Technologies — CoPilot Live USA for Android.

Granted, as the name implies, this one is only going to benefit those in the US. Sorry. But that aside, ALK has a few things going here, first the app is priced at $4.99 which is pretty reasonable and second is that the map data is stored on your microSD memory card.
“CoPilot Live USA for Android provides easy to follow, powerful turn-by-turn guidance with clear 3D guidance views and voice directions throughout the USA. Detailed street-level maps are stored directly on the Android device, not downloaded each trip, so drivers don’t need to rely on a mobile internet connection for navigation.”
Bottom line, turn-by-turn with locally stored maps for just $4.99 sounds pretty good. And while I will say that I have never used CoPilot Live on Android I have used (and love) the CoPilot Live HD app on my iPad. That was $29.99 and well worth the money.
And for those worrying (myself included) about storing map data on your phone, you can worry a little less because the phone stores just the app (a 13.90MB download) and the map data is on the microSD card (2GB is required). In addition, the CoPilot Live USA app also include “millions” of points of interest as well as Clear Turn which shows lane indicator arrows and sign post information.
Furthermore, you can also add on Active Traffic which is a real time traffic service. This will set you back $9.99 per year.
