Early Kinect FPS Implementation Seems Pretty Much Unplayable in Comic Con Video
An intrepid NeoGAF user posted a video of a few New York Comic Con attendees trying their hand at one of the first implementations of a Kinect FPS we’ve seen in action yet. Seems pretty innocuous so far. The game on display is the Paintball mini-game from Hudson’s Deca Sports Freedom and if you only watch the first few seconds of the video, the players almost seem to be having fun.

Further viewing reveals the guy’s initial smile is not one of enjoyment, but frustration. He gives it a good minute or so, but he finally just walks away disappointed. It’s not entirely clear if the fault lies with the conditions (which seemed pretty standard), the players (the booth personnel also seemed to be having trouble) or the hardware itself (the game on the opposite side seemed wonky as well). How does this bode for any FPS on Microsoft’s new platform? Probably too early to tell, but watching the video will probably help in forming your own opinion:

There is another option beyond conditions, players and hardware; it could just be that the game is crap! I certainly wouldn’t take this as an indication that kinect can never manage an fps as deca sports has had some terrible reviews for all its mini-games, not just the paintball.
