Black Ops Pre-Orders Surpassed Modern Warfare 2
Activision’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was one of the best selling entertainment products of all time. So, you may be surprised to learn that the next game in the Call of Duty series, Black Ops, has already surpassed Modern Warfare 2 in pre-orders, and we’re still a few weeks out from the release date.

What’s surprising about the fact is that Black Ops isn’t apart of the “main” Call of Duty series. Everybody knows that the big draw in the Call of Duty series is the Modern Warfare series of games. Black Ops is even being developed by the “B Team”, Treyarch, not the notable developers Infinity Ward (although, as many readers probably know, Infinity Ward has suffered a major talent drain after many broke away to start their own studio).
This news comes by way of website Fudzilla, who cites a GameStop source, saying that Black Ops pre-orders are besting Modern Warfare 2′s. Some GameStop locations are even requiring extra launch day stock of Black Ops. The source said “It is actually quite surprising, as the numbers for the Treyarch Call of Duty games have never been as strong, in my experience.”
Modern Warfare 2 went on to sell over 20 million copies, of course, and if this news is to be believed, Black Ops could best it. Black Ops is Treyarch’s first Call of Duty game set outside of the series’ tired World War Two setting. Since Infinity Ward was gutted when the founders and most of the team left, some have suggested that Activision brass will make Treyarch the “primary” developer for the Call of Duty series. That may be a good idea – if initial customer reaction to Black Ops is anything to go by.
In case you haven’t pre-ordered it, Call of Duty: Black Ops is shipping from Treyarch and Activision on November 9th.
