Copy & Paste On Windows Phone 7 In Early 2011
Some more technically-savy folks weren’t happy when it was disclosed that Windows Phone 7 won’t have copy and paste at launch. I mean, Microsoft popularized copy and paste with Windows and Windows Mobile 6.5 had copy and paste, so why not WP7? Worry not, as the mobile OS will be getting it via a update very soon after launch.

According to Microsoft’s Joe Belifore, the Windows Phone 7 team always wanted copy and paste in the software, but they chose to prioritize some of the other features in the operating system, this seems highly suspect to us – like the news that Windows Phone 7 won’t come on CDMA phones until next year because Microsoft chose to work on GSM first. Come on?
Regardless, Belifore did want to assure the press assembled at the WP7 Open House event that they knew that people were demanding C&P and that it would be patched into the OS in the future. No exact date was provided, but “early 2011″ was thrown around.
With the weird selection of missing features in Windows Phone 7, some are drawing comparisons to iOS, which was missing features when it launched in 2007 (no multitasking, no apps, no custom backgrounds, no copy and paste) but would later go on to become the top mobile operating system. Windows fans are saying that WP7 can pull off a similar stunt, while detractors wonder why Windows Phone 7 isn’t shipping with features that are available on (almost) every other smartphone platform out there today.
What do you think? Should WP7 launch with copy and paste, or are you satisfied with it being patched in later? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section.
