GreenPois0n iOS 4.1 / 3.2.2 Jailbreak Not Coming Out on 10/10/10; Officially Delayed
Apple must certainly enjoy from the distance this iOS jailbreak drama. After Geohot launched Limera1n yesterday, the Chronic Dev Team behind the GreenPois0n tool decided not to launch it anymore today, on 10/10/10 as previously advertised, but to postpone it for the greater good.

The Chronic Dev Team thus wins the moral high ground. Without a doubt launching two jailbreak solutions wouldn’t have been wise, as Apple would have fixed both bootrom exploits in a single swift blow.
GreenPois0n will still be available later down the road, but it will be based on the Limera1n exploit not the SHAtter exploit, thus saving SHAtter for a future fight. Here’s what the Chronic Dev Team wrote on their blog:
Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1n into greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.
We know that this is not what some people want to hear, but due to geohot needing to feed his ego (as usual) and revealing his limera1n exploit, we do not have any other responsible options.
In an earlier post on Limera1n, I was saying that Geohot’s actions show he’s looking for glory. The fact that he moved his release date from October 11 to October 9 only proves my point. By doing so he forced the Chronic Dev Team to postpone their jailbreak launch, but that probably wasn’t his intention. They could have went ahead with the release, but then they would have been the bad guys, revealing to Apple a new bootrom exploit a day after Limera1n. But in my book, saving SHAtter for the future, wins this battle of jailbreak hackers and it’s the Chronic Dev Team that gets the glory today.
I wonder if, had the situation been reversed, and GreenPois0n would have been released today, now, in fact, would Geohot have saved his Limera1n hack for a later date?
Sure one could argue that Geohot’s solution jailbreaks more devices than GreenPois0n, but, at the same time, it will render unlocking for some iPhones useless. What are your opinions on this whole jailbreak wars?
