HTC (Touch) Diamond 3 Concept Android Smartphone Spotted

One could surely argue that part of HTC’s current success is due to those first touchscreen smartphones the carrier launched in the past two years to battle the iPhone. The HTC Touch Diamond, the successor of the HTC Touch, and the HTC Touch Diamond2 are two very important devices in the history of the modern mobile smartphone not to mention HTC’s own history.

So it would definitely make plenty of sense to see the company create a hot HTC Touch Diamond 3 possibly running Android later down the road. There are no such available plans yet but we do have a designer in love with the HTC Touch Diamond series that created the HTC Diamond 3. He obviously created the HTC Touch Diamond 3, and from the looks of it, this baby is running Android with HTC Sense on top of it.

The HTC Touch was a Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC, the HTC Touch Diamond, its successor, was a Windows Mobile 6.1 Pocket PC/Smartphone, while the last of the series, the HTC Touch Diamond2 was a Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone. As you clearly see all these three devices are Windows Mobile-based handsets so the logical assumption would be that a future HTC Touch Diamond 3 should run Windows Phone 7 not Android.

But have you seen all those leaked WP7 smartphones? As much as it pains me to reiterate this, it looks like Microsoft has completely shut down the imagination of its manufacturing partners by imposing strict hardware requirements. All current WP7 handsets – with the exception of the HTC HD7/HD3 that might stand out of the crowd – look pretty similar when it comes to specs and features. So a Touch Diamond 3 running WP7 would run with the pack instead of shining on its own.

In the Android environment, where powerful handsets like the Motorola Droid X or the HTC Desire HD roam the Earth at the same time with the HTC Droid Eris, the LG Ally or the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, an HTC Diamond 3 would definitely make an impression. Android handsets seem to have the personality that’s required to make them succeed, whereas none of the leaked WP7 handsets have really been able to attract our interest.

So, HTC, would you pay some attention to this smart Sylvain Gerber design here and create an HTC Touch Diamond 3 in the near future?
