Verizon LTE iPhone Can Now be Conceived As Verizon Finally Announced Its LTE Network

Verizon Announces LTE Plans for 38 Major Metropolitan Areas by the End of the Year

We just heard from the Wall Street Journal that Apple is going to have the CDMA iPhone ready by early 2011, but that’s not the only important piece of news related to Verizon we got today. Big Red also had a pretty important announcement scheduled for today, the launch of its 4G LTE network.

Verizon will apparently roll out 4G LTE in 38 major metropolitan areas by the end of the year thus getting ready to fight Sprint in the 4G mobile universe. Verizon will cover more than 110 million potential customers by the end of the year, and here’s a list of the initial 4G LTE deployment:

· Large sections of the Northeast Corridor, including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. as well as Rochester, New York
· Throughout Miami and south Florida, Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and New Orleans as well as Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee
· Chicagoland, St. Louis, the Twin Cities, Pittsburgh and major cities in Ohio
· Major population centers in California as well as Seattle, Phoenix, Denver and Las Vegas

This is a pretty impressive launch and we can only assume that some 4G devices are going to be available in time for Christmas. Verizon might get its first 4G Android handsets later this year, not to mention that the LTE iPhone rumor is going to get even more popular with the crowds. In fact, by the end of 2011 we might have an LTE iPhone available on Verizon’s network, that’s assuming the CDMA iPhone we’ve heard of just a little earlier today is indeed coming early next year.

Getting back to LTE characteristics, Verizon will want us to think that its 4G network will be able to handle average download speeds between 5 and 12 megabits per second and average upload speeds between 2 and 5 megabits per second, which isn’t bad at all for now, at least on paper. The chosen LTE spectrum will be the 700MHz, and besides the 38 metropolitan areas that will enjoy LTE in the following months Verizon will also include over 60 commercial airports all over the USA. Anyone excited by LTE’s arrival yet?
