Sony Ericsson WP7 Phones May Be Coming

Sony Ericsson Executive Says That Windows Phone 7 Devices Are "On The Roadmap"]

We think that Sony Ericsson may be sending out conflicting singles to the public. First, they admit that they want to be the top Android manufacturer in the world. Then, they say that they’re dumping Symbian. But, they’re still going to try a Windows Phone 7 handset, despite their commitment to Android. This is according to Sony Ericsson Chief Technology Officer Jan Uddenfelt.

While news of a Sony Ericsson WP7 phone hasn’t really been public or talked about with the other known manufacturers (LG, Samsung, HTC, Dell, etc.), its been confirmed by Oded Ran, Microsoft’s UK head of marketing. Ran confirmed that SE is working on at least one WP7 device for release.

Recently, SE CTO Uddenfelt said that while Android phones were Sony Ericsson’s main priority, he admitted that “Windows 7 Phone [sic] is on the roadmap.” and said that “We have not given up on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system.” We’re pretty sure that Uddenfelt, a Swede, was referring to Windows Phone 7 in both cases.

Sony Ericsson’s been doing well with their Xperia X10, a flagship Android phone that has been heavily promoted in Europe. They’ve expanded to a mid-range Xperia X8 device, but you’ve got believe that more Android devices are on the way. For years, Sony Ericsson was one of the top non-Nokia Symbian developers, and probably the last to jump off the Symbian bandwagon.

What do you think about a Windows Phone 7-powered Sony Ericsson device? Does that excite you?
