Paris Road Show Attendees: New Electric Jaguar Coming
It’s always sort of a letdown to read about electric cars. They’re either horrendously expensive, slated to go into production about twenty minutes after Hell freezes over, or either look or perform (sometimes both) like glorified golf carts. But the Jaguar C-X75 (yes, I said Jaguar) is getting some face time out at the Paris Auto Show, and sadly, it will be another letdown for us all.
The Jaguar C-X75 weighs in at just under 1.5 tons (2,975 pounds), goes from zero to 62 in a blistering 3.4 seconds, maxes out at 780 horsepower, has a top speed of 205 miles per hour, and a range of fully 68 miles on just batteries alone. Throw in the two micro-gas turbines involved and watch that range go spiraling out of control to a whopping 560 miles.
There are phrases out there that easily describe my response to this but none of them are suitable for publication. If they could get these into the market–which they have no plans to do, not surprisingly, and quite in line with the second point of the second sentence–I’m sure they’d sell in monstrous numbers assuming the prices could be kept in check.
