Murata Girl Robot Gets Upgrade

The Murata Seiko, or Murata Girl, Can Now Tackle Curves On Her Unicycle

Way back in 2006, we brought you the Murata Boy, a bike-riding robot that kept its balance with gyroscopes. But now, we’ve got the Murata Seiko, or Murata Girl for those of you who don’t speak Japanese. And from the look of it, she’s getting ready for the Unbeatable Banzuke, if that show’s still on.

After a few minutes with Wiki, apparently it’s not following some injuries (not surprising but still sad) but is getting a revival via G4 (where I originally saw it), but that doesn’t distract from Murata Girl, who rides a unicycle and can now tackle some serious curves. In fact, she’s gotten so good that she can now tackle an elevated S-beam with minimal difficulty.

Granted, that’s not quite as cool as robots that can give us enhanced strength or carry us around, but still–if a robot can drive a unicycle on a balance beam with S-curves and not fall off, it’s likely only a matter of time before my car can finally drive me to the store by following the directions the GPS gives it.
