Google Maps Android App Updated, Now At Version 4.5.1 With Live Weather Wallpaper [Google Maps Navigation For Android Updated To Version 4.5.1, A Small But Neat Update With Live Weather Wallpaper Being Added]
Google has rolled out yet another update for the Maps application on Android. Though, it is worth mentioning that this update, while neat, is rather small as compared to previous updates. That said, this brings the latest version of Google Maps for Android up to version 4.5.1 and it comes as a free download by way of the Android Market.

The update comes in a 4.94MB and according to the “New in Google Maps” section of the Market listing it includes;
- Walking Navigation (Beta)
- Filter search results by distance or ratings
- Maps live wallpaper weather
Of course, those following along with the Android Google Maps updates will likely remember that the walking navigation beta was actually added back in version 4.5 along with the ability to filter search results and Smart View Street Navigation. And just like that we have taken away two of the three listed above. That leaves us just one addition in version 4.5.1, but hey, it is a small point release and I guess we should not expect all that much.
Nonetheless, the live weather wallpaper is a rather neat little feature to have added, though it is not one that I will likely ever use in fear of adding any extra battery drain. But on the flip side, this does seem like more of a fun little ‘look what my phone can do’ kind of thing that you may show off to your friends in an effort to convince them that Android is wonderful.
With that, it is nice to see Google rolling out regular updates for the Maps app on Android. Just since April of this year we have seen Maps Navigation come to Canada as well as several countries in Europe. Plus those in the US have also seen goodies such as improvements to search, transit maps, bike routes, sharing and even Latitude friends. I wonder what they have in store for the next update?
