Nintendo 3DS Will Offer Virtual Console
Nintendo’s 3DS will be offering Game Boy and GBA games via a “Virtual Console” system similar to what they offer on the Wii console. In addition, the handheld is also expected to offer DSi games that are currently out for the currently available DSi handheld. Gamers have been asking for Game Boy games digitally on the Nintendo handhelds for a while, and now they’re coming.

Details aren’t exactly heavy from Nintendo. The announcement regarding Game Boy and GBA games on the Virtual Console on the 3DS was made during Nintendo’s 3DS press conference and the company didn’t expand on pricing or any other details.
Plus, as gaming blog Joystiq pointed out, a few Game Boy and GBA games are being remade for the 3DS console. With games like the Ocarina of Time, MGS3 and Kid Icarus, it seems like the 3DS is the home of the remake, so your favorite Game Boy or GBA game may be coming back to the 3DS in a new form, rather than with the old school look and feel.
Nintendo’s Virtual Console, introduced on the Wii console, offers classic games from a variety of platforms, including classic Nintendo platforms and others. By all indications, it’s been a success for the company, with games usually selling for low prices.
But, shouldn’t the GB and GBA games on the 3DS be called “virtual handheld”? Tell us what you think about the classic GB games on the 3DS, sound off in the comments section.
