Motorola i886 Handset With Android & Two Keyboards Spotted In FCC Filing

FCC Filing Reveals Android-based Motorola i886 Handset Details By Way Of Complete User Manual

It would appear as if a new Android device has been spotted by way of an FCC filing, and thankfully, that filing included the complete user manual for our viewing pleasure. The handset is the Motorola i886 and it comes as an iDEN device.

More interestingly though, this may be the first Android device to move from what looks like a smartphone to a feature phone. Of course, the Android operating system is clearly considered a smarpthone operating system, however a handset with regular numeric keypad and sliding QWERTY is more thought of as a quick messaging phone.

Either way though, this handset does look slightly appealing, that is assuming it comes with a decent price tag. That said, we should not get ahead of ourselves here as the Motorola I886 has not even been officially announced.

As for the details we have learned by way of the FCC filing, aside from the two keypads and Android, the i886 will also feature goodies such as GPS, a 2 megapixel camera with video recording, accelerometer, microSD card slot, microUSB, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack and Push-to-Talk.

After checking out the user manual for a bit we found everything from the Android basics such as the ability to run multiple apps, and how to add widgets to the home screen and how the i886 will arrive sporting dual microphone noise cancellation. Sadly though, like most other user manuals this one contained general how-to types of details such as how-to use the camera, where the images are stored, how-to surf the web and how-to work the dialer. In other words, the stuff that most people ignore when they actually have the phone in hand.

Given the feature set, or specifically the iDEN support this one looks like it could be a Sprint handset. Or more than likely a Boost Mobile handset, and once again I would have to say that given the right price this could make an interesting phone — especially as a pre-paid option. In the meantime, we will be keeping an eye and ear out for more info.
