Mario 25th Anniversary DSi Coming From Nintendo
It’s been 25 years since the original ”Super Mario Bros.” came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System. For the importance that Mario has had for the Japanese company, it’s obvious that Nintendo would do something to commemorate the little Italian plumber, and now, they’ve taken the cover off of a special edition Nintendo DSi and DSi XL that is red with special “25th Anniversary” lively.

Needless to say, these are both limited edition handhelds. The DSi XL (or LL as it’s dubbed in Japan) will sold for ¥18,000 ($216). The smaller regular-sized DSi will be sold only at Japanese 7-Elevens, or their online store (yep, I guess 7-Elevens have an online store in Japan – who knew?), and will cost just ¥14,800 ($177). Both handhelds are red, and come with little familiar Super Mario Bros. characters and symbols printed on the outside. It’s rather subtle, but still striking (in our opinion).
Unfortunately, it looks like these models will only be sold in Japan, with Nintendo giving no mention of their sale in Europe or North America. Mario’s 25th Anniversary only lasts through the end of the year, and so unless they announce them soon, the Western world may miss out on these awesome little handhelds. Better look to your favorite importer now!
