Konami Wheels Out Road Fighters 3D, Complete With Glasses
For those of us who remember the arcade as a great place to go and engage in video combat against those of like-minded bent without the need for high-bandwidth internet connections, the last ten years or so have been one long string of suck. But now, the concept is coming back a bit thanks to the great 3D gimmick, with machines like Konami’s Road Fighters 3D leading the way.
Yes, you’re looking at an actual arcade machine with a 3D visor of sorts mounted on a swing arm. You look through the visor in question at the screen before you and suddenly you’re racing in a 3D environment.
And if 3D racing freaks you out just a bit too much, you can even switch to 2D mode so as not to have to deal with the freaky swing arm in the first place. It even boasts online connectivity to give you competition from most anywhere (let them pay for the massive bandwidth costs!).
This isn’t the first of its kind, either–Konami actually put out a Metal Gear Solid 3D for arcades not so long ago, and though arcades are mostly only big in Japan right now, there’s always a chance the rest of us may get one of these.
