iControlPad To Use Bluetooth After Apple’s Newest Legal Fracas [Originally Set To Use the Apple Dock Connector, The iControlPad Will Now Use Bluetooth]

Apple’s recent legal dustup with HyperMac got the folks handling the iControlPad a little scared. Thus, they have decided to switch to Bluetooth to connect their device instead of the Apple Dock Connector.

And that’s not hyperbole, either–it’s their primary reason for making the switch, according to iControlPad team member Craig Rothwell. Sure, it’ll actually have some additional benefits; you’ll be able to use it with other devices since it uses the more universal Bluetooth connection (the iPad was mentioned, as were Android smartphones) and the lack of proprietary licensing wrangles might play a part in price.

Basically, the iControlPad is about what it sounds like, a more traditional-style input device for gaming on the iPhone (or iPod Touch too, I’d guess), and now, for several other devices as well. It’ll take them a while to add that on, so it’s probably a good thing we don’t have any pricing or release dates yet (earlier reports put this at going to production stage) because they’d probably be rendered moot by this particular bit of news anyway.
