Samsung Galaxy Tab Arrives In AT&T Stores For Training [Tipster Reports That Your Local AT&T Guy Is Training On The Android Tablet Now, Data Plans Similar To The iPad 3G Data Plan]

A tipster, allegedly an AT&T employee, tipped off Android blog AndroidGuys yesterday that AT&T retail stores are receiving units of the Samsung Galaxy Tab in store for employee training and education purposes. While that’s good news, the rumored data plans for the tablet don’t sound so hot.

According to the AT&T source, AT&T will be offering a pre-paid a la carte data plans. Here’s what they are:

  • $15/100mb for 1 day
  • $30/300mb for 7 days
  • $50/1gb for 30 days

These rates have been pretty poorly received by all, but what makes them possibly true is that those rates are almost identical to what AT&T charges for their pre-paid data rates for 3G-connected netbooks and the 3G data cards. So, these could very well be the prices.

These rates however, are generally higher than the a la carte offerings from AT&T for the iPad 3G. But, it’s possible that the AT&T could want to encourage customers towards the iPad because of their partnership with Apple – or whatever reason.

The AT&T tipster also told AndroidGuys that AT&T wants to be first out of the gate with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and a leader in pricing. It seems like the Galaxy Tab will be around $200-$300 with a two-year contract, so we don’t know how AT&T will subsidize the cost of the tablet with a la carte deals.

What do you think about those data prices? Too expensive for you? A total rip-off? Tell us your take in the comments section.
