Raytheon Updates XOS Exoskeleton

Faster, Stronger, Better: the New Raytheon Sarcos XOS 2 Emerges

For those of you humming along with the opening bars of Black Sabbath’s “I Am Iron Man” right now, you’re not alone. That’s exactly what I thought when I saw this amazing piece of hardware, by name, the Sarcos XOS 2 from Raytheon.

A revamped version of the original Sarcos XOS, the XOS 2 is lighter, stronger and faster than the original, providing enough power for several hundred pushups whilst using only half the power of the original.

Significant downside alert, though–they may use half the power, but they need a continuous supply of it to operate. That is, they need to be tethered to a power source in order to operate. But even that isn’t so much of a downside–it’ll be a godsend for those folks loading weapons and suchlike. Think the power walker from Aliens and you’ll get a good picture of the usefulness.
