New iPad 2 Details: Thinner with Camera & Mini USB Says Goldman Sachs

Rumors Suggest New iPad 2 Features; Grains of Salt Required When Listening to Analysts

The fact that Apple will launch a new iPad, the iPad 2 at some point in early 2011 is crystal clear to anyone following this impressive tablet business. Apple took the lead in this computer niche with a new product and it can’t afford to lose that lead so a product refresh will probably be due in Q1 2011.

The next-gen iPad might kill various competitors since everyone is launching a their first-gen tablets now and that’s one more reason for Apple to come out with the iPad 2 when rivals will only have launched their first Tab, PlayBook, or any other device.

Goldman Sachs has gone ahead today and mentioned several features of the next-gen iPad. According to their information, the iPad 2 will be thinner and lighter and will come with an “embedded camera and mini USB.” The 7-inch tablet is not yet finished, unlike previous rumors claimed, and it will only be available after the next 9.7-inch iPad. And while we’re at analysts taking guesses, the iPad 2 is apparently coming at some point in early Q2 2011. As always we’ll take a grain of salt, or two, with such analysts’ predictions, but that doesn’t mean they’re that far off.

In fact, after seeing the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet yesterday, dare I say the first iPad killer, I can also analyze the future iPad 2. In case Apple will not include at least a front-facing camera and some extra ports, like a mini USB connection, the PlayBook will likely kill the iPad 2 too. The Samsung Galaxy Tab, although a very impressive adversary, didn’t strike me as a true iPad killer. Maybe I’m too used seeing Android in action left and right to be really surprised by a tablet that had nothing to surprise me with in the first place.

The PlayBook, although inferior in at least three ways to the iPad – screen size, 3G connection and tablet-dedicated content (apps and eBooks in particular) – has plenty of other features that are far better than the iPad’s. The BlackBerry PlayBook came out of nowhere and made us fall for it, at least for its proposed specs and features. We’ve been fooled by the BlackBerry Storm, the first iPhone killer wannabe, but hopefully this time around the PlayBook will not disappoint.

And that’s why Apple has to make some significant changes to the iPad 2, and we’re not talking about the superficial kind of upgrades found on the iPhone 3GS when compared to the iPhone 3G. And it doesn’t take a Goldman Sachs analyst to say that the next-gen Apple tablet will get cameras, additional connectivity options, and maybe a lighter form; not to mention that we expect a lot of extra hardware upgrades for the iPad 2 that would kick the competition in the nuts. Although a Goldman Sachs analyst could always have some sort of inside information on the matter. Not that we’re judging or anything.

I would not like to see it smaller – but I absolutely need the camera and USB connections – for external HD and for connecting a USB internet device when I am overseas.( to spend my time overseas i now have to watch movies and dvds to spend my time with my aneesoft ipad video converter) A bit more memory would also be great – but not absolutely necessary for me to buy — the others are things I must have to use it.

The only thing I need for the iPad 2 is, a USB connect and a camera. The size and the wate are fine. Don’t change the size! As for programing some of us would like to be able to download more then 20mb apps over the AT&T 3G. And if Apple will not put flash player on the iPad2 then Apple needs to set up a web site for thows of us that need flash. I like my iPad except for thows problems.

I can’t wait for the iPad 2 to come out !!!

Be nice that apple make a Ipad2 perfect for one and for all, front camara USB loaded with flash player, and much more……be nice good price to.

My wish list in descending order of importance:
      - Either grow the screen to the edges or keep it as is and shrink the size to that of the viewable surface.
      - Lighter please. I’ll gladly sacrifice thinner for lighter.
      - Faster WiFi please. It’s much slower than my MacBook Pro, often stalling on videos because of my mediocre high speed availability.
      - Ability to keep aps open in the background please.
      - I wouldn’t argue with a USB connection.
      - Slightly more audio volume.
      - Resolving the Flash issue would be nice but not absolutely necessary.
      - it’s already an outstanding device, well worth owning in its current form.
-I’ll take a camera if it’s offered, but not a big deal to me.

I love my IPad – I purchased one for my husband and I. He was a little upset because he said I shouldn’t have got him one when he know’s apple is going to produce one with a USB & Camera in a year or 2 time. Wow – my husband is in the wrong business. Well when they come out with this new one I will upgrade and give my to my 14yrold son. He uses it alot anyway. However, I hate that I cannot open PDF and 20mb Apps. This is a little crazy for me. I really need wireless printing also. Everything in my house, desktops, laptops, netbooks etc can. Get a clue apple stop leaving out little things. You dont have to trick us to get us to buy – We all love your products so just put it all in one IPad. You sales will still be on top. Think about that.

APPLE will never get a clue. They are all about profit…give a little and then give a little more every generation to keep the hype. If APPLE offer all features, they can’t profit. Wake up APPLE…people are sick and tire of your games.

    8. John Spagnolo says:

I understand that Apple keeps the memory expansion away to keep people buying the better model. Good for marketing and profit, bad for us. Let it go….

Stay with the current screen size on iPad2 (but maybe go all the way out to the edges!) but have ANOTHER iPad, of the 7″ variety?

Come on already, let us swap batteries. :-)

    9. Steve Smithson says:

It HAS to support Flash – let users decide not Steve Jobs!

    10. jay says:

      Flash player definitely is needed…
Like that they added a camera and its in white.
Other than that, its an amazing device…

Ps: if you want smaller go buy an ipod touch
