iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1) Unlock Delayed by Jailbreak; GreenPois0n Requires All Hands on Deck? [Chronic Dev Team Says iOS 4.1 Jailbreak a Priority, Unlock Not in the Works]

We have been talking about the SHAtter-based GreenPois0n jailbreak for quite a while now and I guess we all assumed an unlock tool is going to be available right around the corner. But according to the Chronic Dev Team that’s currently working on the iOS 4.1 / 3.2.2 jailbreak, the unlock tool is not coming very soon.

In fact it looks like this jailbreak effort requires all hands on deck as the Chronic Dev Team doesn’t have the man power needed to also work on an unlock tool at the same time. Here’s a recent tweet coming from them:

To those asking about unlock: At this time, only the jailbreak is being worked on, as it requires the team’s full attention.

Sure, that doesn’t mean that the iOS 4.1 unlock tool for iPhone 4, and other versions, will not be available later on. In fact chances are that older iPhone 3G models and some iPhone 3GS handsets will be unlockable using previous unlock tools. But the newer iPhone 3GS or the iPhone 4 will have to still wait for such a tool.

Is the iPhone Dev Team going to work on an unlock solution? Common sense says that anyone developing a new iPhone 4.1 unlock tool will still have to wait for GreenPois0n to come out so they can jailbreak iOS 4.1, doesn’t it? Unlocking the iPhone without a prior jailbreak is impossible, but that’s something you must already be aware of in case you need to free your handset from the shackles of your carrier.

The tweet above isn’t saying all that much and while we keep guessing on the future of the iPhone 4 unlock we can’t but wonder if the jailbreak tool is coming out on time. We don’t have an officially announced release date, but since we’ve been talking about GreenPois0n for quite a while now we’d expect it to be available to the masses soon. And the fact that the jailbreak requires “the team’s full attention” is also troubling from certain points of view. So, Chronic Dev Team members, are we running behind schedule with GreenPois0n? Is there anything we should be worried about?
