iPod touch 4G SHAtter-based Jailbreak Demoed; GreenPois0n Coming Out Soon? [iPhone Dev Team Shows iPod touch 4G PwnageTool Jailbreak Tool Based on SHAtter in Action]
People are restlessly waiting for the iOS 4.1 / iOS 4.0.2 / iOS 3.2.2 jailbreak solution to come out and last time we checked, the GreenPois0n SHAtter-based jailbreak tool was on its way to iOS devices soon. While the Chronic Dev Team didn’t release the jailbreak yet, the iPhone Dev Team showed us how a PwnageTool jailbreak also based on the SHAtter exploit found by pod2g works on the iPod touch 4G.

That’s right, the iPod touch 4G in the video below has been jailbroken which means that the iPhone 4, and all previous models, running iOS 4.1 will be jailbreakable soon. The question is will we see GreenPois0n out from the Chronic Dev Team or will the iPhone Dev Team update its own PwnageTool and bring the SHAtter exploit to the masses in a commercially-viable solution? The official iPhone Dev Team says that the Chronic Dev Team will develop and release GreenPois0n, a procedure that’s pretty time consuming and can’t be developed overnight.
A few days ago we told you that pod2g announced that he has nothing to do with the Chronic Dev Team anymore. He also said that he made the SHAtter exploit available to both the Chronic and the iPhone Dev Team so we can only assume that both these establishments have been working on iOS 4.1 jailbreaking ever since.
The PwnageTool used to jailbreak this iOS 4.1-running iPod touch 4G is just an internal version and not the official tool that could be made public in the near future. The official version is somewhat hinted at as coming at some point in the future, and its main use would be to allow updates “while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock,” as the iPhone Dev Team is putting it.
We’ll be back with more iOS 4.1 jailbreaking details as soon as we have them so stick around for more news as we go along.
