Respawn Entertainment Begins Hiring For New Project
Out of all of the first person shooter franchises available on the market there is one that continues to impressive time and time again both with game play and sales numbers and that is none other than Call of Duty. Originally released back in 2003, Call of Duty currently sits at Modern Warfare 2 – its latest and greatest iteration.

If you’ve been paying any sort of attention you’ll already know what success Modern Warfare 2 has seen. If you haven’t, perhaps knowing that the game managed to net $550 million in 5 days will give you a clue of just how successful this game has been. Now, if you’re a gamer, you’ll know that Modern Warfare 2 was developed by Infinity Ward who were the makers of the original game back in 2003.
Call of Duty: World at War and the forthcoming Black Ops are products from Treyarch, an alternative Call of Duty maker, but we’ll save that for another story.
Anyways, seeing the early success of the Call of Duty franchise, Activision quickly swooped in and bought up Infinity Ward and all of their respective properties. With Activision being one of the world’s leading video game publishers this was obviously a great thing for the studio, at the time anyways
As time progressed tensions grew high at the respective companies and following the release of Modern Warfare 2, Vince Zampella and Jason West, two of Infinity Ward’s top executives, were fired. Why exactly they were fired remains in the courts but something to do with breaking a non disclosure agreement has been frequently chirped.
Following their dismissal, West and Zampella went on to team up with EA, one of Activision’s biggest competitors, to form Respawn Entertainment. While it’s not currently known what the first title out of Respawn will be, the infant studio has put up a job listing today seeking individuals ready to work on a new project.
The job listing for Respawn’s new project seeks an audio and art lead and reads as follows:
Respawn intends to develop a multi-platform product that works on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Its product will be based on new video game IP and will be funded through its publishing deal with Electronic Arts, one of the top publishers in the industry
While this isn’t exactly the most exciting news, it does confirm that Respawn Entertainment is hard at work on their debut title. Unfortunately, exactly when we will see this title is any one’s guess but let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.

i don’t like the company’s name (respawn entertainment), they could of picked a better name. the previous infinityward had a lot better tone to it. but that doesn’t matter i suppose since it’s the products that i’m interested in. since 82 percent of the staff of IW left to form this new studio, you’re pretty much the new IW. i’ve been a big CoD fan, specifically speaking MW & MW2 are my favorites. i hope you guys continue on the path of producing FPS games for consoles because i’m a big fan of your productions.
Personally, I like the name “Respawn Entertainment”. It is symbolic of their re-birth as a developer. They were done wrong by Activision (IMHO), and now they have respawned fresh and new ready to bring the pain! ;) And I really hope they bring everything they got to this new IP. It could very well be the next big thing since I feel all of the IW made COD’s were the best ones.
Mw3????????????
As soon as i found out respawn entertainment was born I bought stock in EA. Enough said.
Possible first title for Respawn E. (War Our Way!)
i dunno man… if you think of the name, “Respawn”… kinda sounds like 1.) there making a shooter, and 2.) the company itself is respawning. I like the name!
What’s not to like about the name of the company? Its a perfect name! It uses game lingo and tells exactly what they are doing, in a way that sends the world a message and throws Activision the middle finger; West and Zampella are back!
